Advanced Monitoring
Advanced Monitoring Instrumentation
Anesthetic procedures carry an inherent level of risk. However, continuous monitoring of the following processes greatly reduces the chance of anesthetic complications.
We monitor the:
- Exhaled carbon dioxide from the lungs
- Oxygen tension in the blood
- Patient’s blood pressure
- Patient’s heart rate and rhythm
In order to continue to decrease the risk of anesthetic complication and to aid in treatment if any deviations are noted, all of our surgery patients receive the following;
- Preoperative blood screening prior to the surgery day
- IV catheterization the day of surgery
- IV fluids while in surgery
- Whole body warming via warm air and/or warm water blankets while in surgery
In addition, pets under 20 pounds are recovered on a heated waterbed. All the aforementioned precautions help to assist in reducing the chance of anesthetic complications.
